# Steps:

01 - Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
03 - Add cold cubed butter to the dry mixture and cut in using a pastry cutter or fingertips until coarse crumbs form.
04 - Whisk buttermilk, egg, and birch syrup together in a separate bowl.
05 - Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined.
06 - Gently fold blueberries into the dough without overmixing.
07 - Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat into a 7-inch round, about 1 inch thick.
08 - Cut the dough into 8 wedges and place them spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet.
09 - Brush the tops with cream or milk and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
